Atelier
The atelier of Basalt is directly behind the shop.
There are the wheels on which the pots are thrown, the kilns and the decoration room.
Producing pottery is a very labour intensive task.
After the moulding of the clay, it has to be divided into potions, ready to be worked with. The platters on which the clay is thrown has to be cleaned.
After throwing, the product has to dry for some time and can then be "cut off", after which it's ready to dry thouroughly.
When the product is dry and ready to be painted is has to be sponzed and can then be painted with engobe.
Because of the painting with engobe on raw clay, the painter has an abundance of techniques avaliable.
You can paint in aquarel style, scratch technique, use sjablones of paper etc. When you don't like what you have produced,
take a scraper and scratch the product clean and start anew.
Finished painting, the kiln is loaded and bisquet fired at 1020 degrees Celsius. The glaze kiln takes another 24 hours
and reaches a temperature of 1260 degrees Celsius.
